Wikes was partially raised by his grandmother and grandfather and took on their last name.Mamie his sister was born much later and took on the Stubbins name.
Richard Goode...
was an immigrant from England like his brother John.Family tradition states that there were two brothers, who settled first upon the 'eastern shore,' and afterwards came to the James river. Whether or not John and Richard Goode were for a time residents of Accomac, we shall, probably, never know; nor is it known that Richard Goode accompanied his brother to Barbados. Per "Virginia Cousins," Richard received in 1670 a grant of 250 acres in Old Rappahannock Co. This was the size land grant given by the Virginia Co. to "indentured servants" after they served their 4-5 years. Mrs.Margaret Brent, descendant of Giles Brent, transported 20 persons to build up her acres in Rappahannock Co. Virginia. (Andrews, Charles M.,"The Colonial Period of American History, p. 48) One of those persons was"Richard Good."
Richard was b. Abt. 1635 in Parish of Whitstone in the north of Cornwall, England (per Goode, George Brown "Virginia Cousins" (Washington 1888;Reprint C.J. Carrier Co., 1963 p. 34) and died Abt. 1719 in Essex Co. (originally Rappahannock Co.), VA. His will was proved January 19, 1719,Essex Co VA Will Book 3, pg 127, witnesses Edward Mosely, Robert Parker, Abner Gray.
